03/19/10 House heads for vote; bill would make health coverage secure and cut deficit

The House of Representatives is heading for a vote, expected Sunday, on a comprehensive health reform bill. The bill would make health coverage secure for those of us who have it and would extend coverage to 33 million more people. At the same time, it would cut the deficit by $138 billion in the next ten years and $1.2 trillion in the following decade. As President Obama presses the case for health reform and the public is focusing more on how it would work, support for reform is growing. A poll of 1,000 voters in swing districts for CWA and two other unions found 59% of voters in these more-conservative-than-average districts supporting major reform or a total overhaul of the health system.  Read More
